Fred Upton (ex fisherman and ferry worker) is a regular sight on Walmer beach. He visits most days (weather permitting) with a bag of wholemeal bread for the gulls and a flask of water for himself. For many locals he is the symbol of the beach. These shots were made with Fred's permission at two of his regular meetings with the birds in September 2024 and October 2025.
